Spring Ahead

As temps rise (finally!), we can now put our sweaters and boots away and turn our attention to flowing fabrics, shorter sleeves and best of all, peep-toe shoes. “Warm weather brings me to a leisurely state of mind,” says stylist and image consultant Kendra Charisse Porter. “Ease and flow should be reflected in everyone’s wardrobe.” How to do that? Kendra tells us how, with ten classic items she believes every woman should have in her closet this season.

  1. A Linen Suit: Wear as separates or pulled together, this a must for any wardrobe. Paired with silks or chambrays to tees or cover-up, linen works for all occasions.  Unlined separates are easy everyday wear and are machine washable.
  2. Wedge Sandals: Tall wedge or short wedge, you can’t go wrong with a sturdy heel that provides support, comfort and style.
  3. Button-Down Shirts: Ideal for layering. Go with a crisp white shirt for a more polished look or chambray for casual style. Add accessories to dress both looks up or down.
  4. The Perfect Short: Everyone can wear shorts, from a 2-inch inseam to converting a pair of jeans to knee-length. It’s all about finding the right length for you.
  5. A Rain Coat: Whether anorak or trench, choose a good lightweight coat with some flair that will have you singing in the rain.
  6. A Convertible Bra: Look great in a racer-back tank, halter dress or plunging neckline with the support you need. Nothing looks worse than gravity taking charge.
  7. Lightweight Scarves: Heading into a cool evening, you can add texture, color and pattern while staying warm with a scarf.
  8. Statement Jewelry: Handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces stand out and are easily found at local fairs or by sidewalk vendors selling their wares.
  9. Beauty Amplifiers: Tinted moisturizers, highlighters and bronzers work to enhance your natural beauty without weighing you down.
  10. Fragrance: Choose a perfume with a touch of floral or fruit essence that works with your body’s chemistry for a refreshing summer scent.
